What is Quit Rock?
Quit Rock is an anecdotal guide to pursuing a career in today’s modern music industry. There are plenty of textbook-style “how to” books out there that offer nice background, but almost none of them provides a balance of objective and subjective points of view to really break down what’s going on in the “new model” business.
Quit Rock was written to educate, reality-check, and empower a generation of aspiring artists, songwriters, and music executives from the perspective of someone who found out the hard way…ME!
Is this book really telling me to give up my dream???
NO!!! Well…maybe. Actually, it’s a loaded question.
I wrote Quit Rock with a very specific purpose: to give insight into a very complicated and clandestine industry…the Music Biz. I started out as a kid with a guitar and a dream, and I built a successful and lucrative career in one of the coolest industries in the world. My journey, however, was not easy nor predictable.
After almost two decades of pursuing my dream, I thought it was time to give back some of the most important tidbits of knowledge that I’ve learned over the years.
Quit Rock isn’t meant to discourage those with good intentions, but I do want everyone pursuing a career in music to understand that the very nature of this business makes it difficult if you’re not prepared and impossible if you’re not realistic.
Is Quit Rock available as an eBook?
Right now the book is only available on paperback. Why you may ask? Without getting too philosophical, Quit Rock was never intended to be a commercial product; it started out as a bunch of random ideas for possible future blog posts and guest commentaries in print and online magazines. Soon after the writing process began, I realized that the information could be so much more beneficial to the reader if it was delivered as a complete group of thoughts, rather than being dispensed piecemeal-style as different articles.
I am so excited about the information being absorbed in a focused, direct way, without interruption or distraction, that I have chosen to “force” the reader to enter my stream of consciousness on my terms…picking up a physical book, turning the pages, and having the ability to highlight/mark-up the information with the same commitment to learning that I made in attempting to inspire.
It is possible, likely, maybe even inevitable that an eBook will emerge, but for now you’re going to have to put in just a little more effort than a couple “clicks,” a notion that is at the heart of the very message I set out to convey!
I still have questions, can you HELP???!!!
Quit Rock provides the framework for understanding how to succeed in today’s industry, but it is just that, framework. My goal is to get you thinking about your career in a different way, thus maximizing the impact your actions can have in the real world. I couldn’t possibly address every topic and situation that confronts young talents, nor was that my intention.
